A panel of entrepreneurs who have raised between $250K to $1MM each, will discuss:

- How to approach an investor for first time?
- The do's and don'ts of pitching
- What do investors really look for? 
- What you should look for in a potential investor.

PANELISTS

Bennet Fisher is the Founder and CEO of Retroficiency,  a software and technology company helping building owners and managers identify and analyze energy efficiency and sustainability options.  He has extensive experience in commercial real estate having sourced, operated, repositioned, and sold over $500M in commercial assets. Bennett is a graduate of the MIT Sloan School of Management where he was Co-President of both the Venture Capital and Private Equity Club and the Innovation Club as well as a member of the Entrepreneurship and Innovation Program. Bennet is Fellow of Startup Leadership Program.

Sidd Goyal is CTO of Assured Labor, Inc.  an online marketplace that leverages the power of SMS and the Internet to connect employers and workers in emerging markets. Sidd has extensive background in mobile and wireless technologies having co-founded a startup in the enterprise mobile space out of MIT, served as a lead architect on Palm's synchronization team, and owns multiple patents in the area of wireless synchronization technologies.  Sidd has undergraduate and graduate degrees from MIT's Computer Science department.  Sidd is a Fellow of Startup Leadership Program. Assured Labor, Inc. is a Dogpatch Cambridge startup.


Raj Aggarwal is CEO of Localytics, a real-time analytics platform for the leading publishers of iPhone, iPad, Android and BlackBerry apps. Raj previously spent 5 years in management consulting, most recently with Bain & Company. His primary focus was the wireless sector and in this capacity he helped build some of the world’s most successful wireless companies. Prior to consulting, Raj completed his MBA with Honors from the Ivey School of Business and London Business School. Localytics is a Dogpatch Cambridge startup.

Leon Noel is founder and CEO of Social Sci, a survey platform which drastically reduces the time and money necessary to carry out scientific studies by connecting an online community with academic researchers. Leon left his undergraduate studies at Yale University in order pursue his entrepreneurial ambitions. SocialSci, Inc. is a TechStars Boston 2010 and Dogpatch Labs Cambridge startup.

Moderator

Shawn Broderick
A successful entrepreneur, Shawn has spent fifteen years building Internet companies focused on community, security, and privacy. In 2010 he co-founded social gaming company play140 where he serves as executive chairman. He also serves as ceo of TrustPlus which has created a portable reputation layer for the Internet. In 1996, he founded Genetic Anomalies, the first company to commercialize virtual property on the Internet which went on to sell tens of millions of pieces of virtual goods. He has also held positions at THQ Inc., international strategy consultancy Monitor Company, and Feld Technologies.
 
Over the years, in addition to the nineteen (19) TechStars Boston alums, Shawn has served as an investor, adviser, and/or director to Arcadios, CoreStreet, DigitalShares, Govedo, iFactory, Kefta, Red 5 Studios, RideOnTime, Speranza Systems, TradeVine, Troba, Virtual Rendezvous, Voxx, Xigig, and xLr8d Brands. He received his BA in Computer Science from Brandeis University and is currently an Adjunct Professor at Boston University.

Startup Leadership Program & Dogpatch Labs



Startup Leadership Program (SLP) is a global initiative to train the next generation of startup CEOs in their early-twenties to mid thirties in life sciences, tech and cleantech sectors. SLP was founded in 2006 in Boston and is now also running in Silicon Valley, New York, San Diego, Delhi and Bangalore. The program operates in Boston through the TiE Boston chapter, and in other cities through local entrepreneurial organizations. The SLP network is comprised of 215 Fellows who have founded more than 80 companies and attracted nearly $75MM in investments.

Dogpatch Labs was created by Polaris Venture Partners to connect entrepreneurs and help founders conceive and launch startups.  Dogpatch Labs has three locations, Cambridge, New York City and San Francisco.
